One of the things that I had on the to do list was chopping out the standard rear towing eye and repairing the rear member is is attached to. In my first rounds of work on the car it was evident that the panel was rotten, but I didn’t have the expertise to tackle it. A few years later…

The rear section under the floor was pretty far gone. Chopped it out and fabricated a repair section and fitted it to make good the standard parts, then fabricated this…

When I was bleeding the offside brake calliper I noticed a patch in the front wheel arch that didn’t look too wonderful so I scraped off the underseal to find it looking a little rotten underneath. So this weekend finally managed to find time to break out the tools and tidy it up!

After this there was over an hour spent fine tuning it to fit. It needed some extra drillings and some more forming

So this is where I am up to with the repairs.

To keep the panels in the right place when welding on the next section, it was time to crack out the cleco pins. They’re a great bit of kit.

Next job is the final repair panel. This is a tricky one but I’m going to go for the all in one approach. I reckon that it’s doable, but there will be some challenges in forming all the creases.
