Repairs

Haven’t had much time available and phone’s been playing up affecting photos – not sure how it is going from 40% battery to completely flat in two hours doing nothing but there we go. It probably didn’t like the cold. The condensation has caused icycles to form under the ceiling…

Fabrication Time

Well had a bit of time away and a chance to get perspective and decide what I wanted to do with the car. Came back with a bit more enthusiasm and then tonight managed to get a good few hours working on the car. Fabricated up some mounting points for the retaining straps that are going to hold the fuel cell in. These are going to be strong. Welded M8 nuts onto some 3mm plate and then welded that to some SWG16 sheet which I then folded and welded up. Might have played with the swager set in the process…

These pair of bad boys will be welded in behind the fuel cell in the hollow where the rear seats used to be and will sit flush at the same level as the boot floor. Then just need to mount the other two plates onto the bulkhead and form up a template for the retaining strap out of some steel and then I’ll get some made up out of 5mm alloy.

Tidying Up

A little bit of tidying up to make things symmetrical. The section chopped out to make way for the fuel cell was cannabalised to provide the patch piece. Most difficult thing was getting the measurements right!

Having removed the rear section and main hoopd, the roll cage is now fully out so I will finish filling holes in the interior now I have all the access I need.

Fuel Cell Mounts In

Wanted to press on with things, so back at it again today. After load of measurements, I fabricated up these supports for the fuel cell container.

Capped off the ends to give a nicer finish – you’ll never see it, but it’s all about satisfaction about knowing it’s been nicely done.

Welded in the supports. Needs a bit of cleaning, but they’re solidly mounted now.

Next job to do some more plating to fill holes. As well as this there are a good number to fill in the floor plan and on the bulkhead behind the seats.

Having worked out where the bias valve was going to be mounted, I decided that the tunnel needed a final bit of tidying up so took this area which was all dented and patched:

Original Tunnel

Marked it up, chopped it out, formed up a repair panel and welded it in:

Ground down the welds and then fabricated up the mounting for the bias valve and welded that in:

Finished up by painting the tunnel inside and underneath in POR15 so it’s primed. There’s plenty more work that is needed inside, but at least this will keep the work completed so some protection.

The first job on my list to get the shell rolling was crossed off on Saturday:

Checklist

Picked up a new pair of handbrake cables…

Hand Brake Cables

Need to finalise my order with Speedflow for fittings and get that on the way now, in the mean time back to finishing off the EPAS and getting the inside of the firewall bulkhead finished up and in primer.
