Tonight’s first task was to fit the pedals. The setup in the car was previously this:

I’d looked at this yesterday, measured up to get the 50mm pedal spacing and marked out potential holes for drilling with red enamel. It was clear that the shape of the accelerator pedal wasn’t going to work, so it was a hacksaw job to cut and then file into shape.

In the car I mounted the accelerator pedal first. The pedals were surprisingly easy to drill – I had been dreading it. I used an aluminium plate to prevent drilling through and into the carpet and used newspaper to collect the swarf. The way in which arms are mounted to the pedal flats meant drilling was tricky and needed some needle filing to get a good bolt hole. Unfortunately, the stock bolts weren’t long enough for the accelerator, so I had a rummage through the spare bolts tub and found two M6 bolts from a pair of mountain bike v-brakes. These are semi countersunk bolts used to attach the brakes to the frame or fork bosses.

Brake pedal was easy and went on no problem. I left the clutch pedal until last because I was concerned that the lower of the two marked holes was a bit too close to the edge of the pedal for comfort and after drilling the others, I was convinced that it had to be moved. I used a drill and a needle file to counter sink one of the grommet holes until it would take the bolt in the offset position, used a tab of enamel to mark the spot and got busy with the drill. Last pedal fitted. Job done.
