Fill. Sand. Fill. Sand.

Progressing slowly on the body work. I’m trying to get a good finish so it’s taking a little while. Mostly working on the OS front wheel arch, but the NS has needed a little attention too. Touching up the front bumper too where there were some scrapes and stone chips.

Elsewhere, I’ve fabricated a new bracket mounting for the ECU out of aluminium. It’s bonded together, but after testing will need some bolts for additional structural strength. It’s 1/3 the weight of the pressed steel plate which inevitably had rusted up.

I looked at the battery tray too as I fancied having a crack at fabricating a mounting plate for that too, but the battery sits directly above the gearbox chassis mounting so has to be raised by about 5 cm to clear this and I haven’t worked out how to fabricate the necessary three bosses to clear this. I reckon that it’s one of those things where one day you’ll spot something that is just what you need and it’ll all come together.

In the interim I’ve started prepping the battery tray (ironically about the only galvanised steel thing I’ve found beyond the hi tensile steel bolts) and also the hollow tubular bracket that supports the washer bottle. Had the immobiliser fitted on Saturday too which will keep the insurance people happy – really nice tidy job done and a minimalist unit added.
