More Bits

Ended up in Wakefield during the week to pick up a set of Michelin Sport steel wheels. These were the original rims on which the Rallyes rolled out of the factory. They’re lighter than most alloys, tough as old boots and come in white, or err, white* (*rust optional). At present they’re about £47 each and I managed to get a full set of four with tyres for £50 by part exchanging the air box of the old S1 I had in the garage. It’s fair to say that they’re not in box fresh condition, but even the new ones have a fairly shoddy paint finish which doesn’t keep rust at bay for too long.

I need to give them a closer inspection to work out if they’re within scope of a DIY refurb or whether they are at the point they need to be sent off for professional refinishing and powder coating. Having read the cheap budget tyre review in the latest edition of Autocar, I’m fairly sure that a set of Michelins will be in order to replace what’s currently fitted. There’s also an interesting lightbulb test results from Autoexpress which might be useful in future…
