Spent almost the whole weekend working on the two cars. Both are now in bits without their respective dashboards, the GTI needed a new section putting in the dash which is now done. It just needs the new head unit wiring in and some general tidying up and securing to cure the mystery rattle from behind the dash.
Progress feels like it is slow moving at the moment as I’m having to do some body work repairs on both – I’ve discovered that under the aerial is a little rust generator. Anyway aerial is off the Rallye and ready to be fitted to the GTI once the paintwork is fixed up. Seemed to spent ages repairing little niggly things like the speakers in the GTI (drivers side was broken) and the check strap in the same door.
With the carpet out of the GTI (it’s filthy and has gone straight in the skip) I set about the floor pan treating a few problem areas and sealing up with blanking grommets and silicon. I seem to have sourced a headlining for the GTI in the Midlands. Just need to agree a time to go and fetch it.
