Update

Having tidied up a host of wiring issues behind the dash of the GTI (it appears to have had two different alarm systems installed in its life in addition to the stock immobiliser), it was time to refit it today. All went well until it came to putting the glove box back in place when it became apparent that some of the tidying had created a restriction that stopped it opening and closing properly. More fettling needed.

Quite pleased to have the new Sony head unit in place now with a working aerial (this was replaced with the external antenna and cable from the Rallye) and to have replaced one or two bulbs in the dash that weren’t working. Of course now I’ve sorted out that part of things there’s still plenty left to do on the GTI to debug it of it’s little issues, but it rattles a lot less now than it did before.
