Rebuild Part 2

After a bit of faffing about, refitted the bonnet and put everything in the engine bay back together. Still a few jobs to do like the proper fitting of the cage inside as well as the codriver footrest, gel battery mount and some covers for the rear wishbone mount access panel. I am going to re-route the washer jet hose from it’s silly long path up the drivers side across the car and into the passenger rear quarter and just run it all down the passenger side. I need to get the car up on axle stands and clear access inside both front arches to do this.

After some playing around with seating position yesterday, I can’t get it quite how I want it. I either end up sitting too far reclined or too upright. The only way I can think of fine tuning this is to put it in the lowest position and use shim washers between the sidemounts and seat rails.

I have also been thinking about fitting the sunstrip, because the sunshades have been stripped out. The following is taken from the MOT inspection manual.

sunstrip

Reasons for failure:

  • 4b. a windscreen sticker or other obstruction encroaching more than 10mm. (in zone ‘A’)
  • 4e. a windscreen sticker or other obstruction encroaching more than 40mm. (outside zone ‘A’)
  • Additional mirrors and tinting films are not subject to Reason for Rejection 4.

So its down to the examiner’s interpretation of the rules, as they could either regard the sunstrip as a sticker and fail it, or regard it as a tinting film and that there is no reason for failure. Also, its worth noting that zone A will be significantly smaller with the single wiper I have fitted. Hmmm.
