Finally managed to track down a Vauxhall Corsa electronic power assisted steering rack for the car. This EPAS is a ‘c-type’ and I’ll be following the example set by James Ball aka Kiwi in getting it setup and installed.
The use of the Corsa units has been popularised by the Mk1&2 Escort rally community and has been transplanted into numerous other vehicles including Mk1 Golfs. The popularity of the units has bumped up the prices so getting one reasonably priced with all the necessary parts is trickier than it sounds.
This 2004 unit will be ideally suited to mating to the Quaife quick rack that’s on the way. We’ve coordinated a group buy with Quaife for them to develop a rack with fewer turns lock to lock specifically for the 106. It’s due sometime in April. Just waiting on a speed controller unit to be able to adjust the amount of assistance the EPAS delivers.
