Started work again in the 16v again recently. The steering rack is completely stripped down. It just needs cleaning up and degreasing and then I will get the alloy casing painted up. After that put it all back together with the Quaife innards.
Well said I would do this about a month ago, but just haven’t had time as I’ve been too busy with work. Did find some time to degrease the steering rack. Might have left it over night in a bucket of degreaser that left a tidemark.

Doesn’t matter though, you can’t tell now I’ve smoothed off the castings and cleaned off the oxide layer.

First coat of paint went on last night. Top coat time tonight.
I test fitted the new pinion. The end of it pokes out a lot more that the original were the cap used to be over the needle bearing. I had to punch through that to drive the old pinion out. I need a way to cap this off to seal it and to stop crap working it’s way into the casing and contaminating the grease. I do have one plan which involves bonding a large domed hex nut over the top – parts ordered for that…
