So today I started taking the interior back to basics.

This was the starting point.

I take back the earlier comment on the seat rails, they were a decent 2mm thickness material but they were drilled a few times and didn’t have crush tubes fitted. In my experience without taking the centre plate off the tunnel you also can’t get bucket seats centred properly and for this build I wanted access to the back seats. So the seat rails were out. Normal seats will be going back in.

My concerns about the cage mounts were justified. I would not have trusted these in the event of a roll. Some of the welds hadn’t penetrated properly and other seams were only partially joined to the shell.

Having exhausted my supply of 1mm slit discs for the angle grinder and gone through a couple of Dremel EZ Lock discs it’s more than half way there because work on the mounts on the passenger side has been started. Car drew first blood too. I head butted the steering column supports.
