Colin Satchell and Sandy Brown have developed a long lever rose-jointed quick shift kit for the 106. This is it: Affectionately known in 106 circles as the SatchShift kit, Colin sent it on the 10th December and it'd then been jammed in the Christmas post. It's nicely made down to the grease nipples on the... Continue Reading →
Update
Not huge progress really but I am starting to learn how to weld which will enable me to crack on with the rest of the bodywork that needs doing. Much more practice needed, but the advice from the seasoned professionals over at the MIG Welding forum is proving invaluable. I was also lucky enough to... Continue Reading →
Update
The final silicon hoses arrived for the engine from BakerBM. These connect the block to the bulkhead connectors that feed the heater matrix. I'm also nearly ready to get welding. The PortaMig is here, just waiting on some consumables and leather protective gear to get started.
POR15 Whitecote
This is reference material for my intended use of POR-15 as the final finish in the engine bay: Product DescriptionWhitecote Paint is a high-gloss extreme durability topcoat that can be applied over a number of surfaces, including heavy-duty vehicle chassis and trailers, floor pans, agricultural machinery, and many marine applications as well, including motors, heat... Colour Anodising
It's all been a bit quiet, but finally parts are starting to arrive! Colin Satchell and Sandy Brown long 16v inlet manifold: Colin Satchell alternator pulley wheels: Colin Satchell modified wheel spacers, coloured red and blue for nearside and offside. Everything anodised by Colour Anodising, if you have to ask how much you probably can't... Continue Reading →
Update
Okay, not much action happening but plenty of other things. I am convinced that I passed my driving test before January 1997, but wasn't on the UK mainland when I took the test (I was offshore on Guernsey) and can't remember the exact date. My Guernsey driving licence had to be traded in with the... Continue Reading →
Gearbox Boxed Off
Yesterday before creating a dust storm in the garage I sanded the POR15 Chassis Coat Black topcoat of the gearbox mounting bracket down and repainted it as I wasn't happy with the finish. Covered it up with a big tuppaware plastic box and left it to dry. I'm satisfied with the outcome - not bad... Continue Reading →
I Can See the Light!
Cracked on tonight and starting to find the problems I knew were lurking! I had found some problem rot in the offside wheel arch that I knew would need attention, but tonight I uncovered the extent of the problem. At least I am getting rid of all the black crappy paint that had been coated... Continue Reading →
Fire Up the Weapons
Finally made it out to the garage to do some proper work on the car for the first time in two weeks. It was baltic out there and too cold for painting, so it was time to get the weapons of mass destruction fired up. I've had these two sections marked out for the chop... Continue Reading →
Few More Parts
I've ordered a K&N panel filter so that I can construct a carbon air box in the scuttle for the Throttle Bodies. It's the same one that's used in the Mercedes V12 SL600. After a bit of research I've also gone for some Motul RBF 660 brake fluid for when the brakes go back on.
Shiny Bits
Here's the weaponry for when I get back onto the body work... Some of the parts I've been waiting for have turned up: The alloy bolts are replacements for steel bolts in non-stress areas like these M8 bolts that clamp the Jenveys to the inlet manifold. The weight saving on individual bolts is never very... Continue Reading →
A Little Progress
This is the standard speed sensor and mounting bolt on the gearbox. I didn't like the rusty bolt so I've upgraded it to a titanium one It's a M7 bolt with a 1.00 thread pitch with a length of 16mm. It's also a cap head rather than a normal bolt head like some of the... Continue Reading →
