Passed

Rallye is back on the road having passed it's MOT after a retest. A week ago it scraped through on emissions, but was failed on the brakes (front discs excessively pitted and too much travel in the handbrake. The washer bottle motor had also packed up when I was doing the final run through things... Continue Reading →

Progress Report

Exhaust turned up, so I did a dry run assemble and it all fits. Ordered a new heat shield as the fuel tank worryingly didn't have one and a stainless steel exhaust clamp so once they arrive I can fit them and the exhaust on. Managed to get the POR15 rust preventative coats on, so... Continue Reading →

Bits

Some bits have arrived over the course of the week including these stainless steel plugs to blank out the lambda sensor plugs in the catalytic convertor. Also picked up a Mocal oil catch tank at a great price which is in fabulous condition. I decided to get a decent inspection lamps as the cheap one... Continue Reading →

Intermission

Fitted all the wheel studs and finally bolted up the last sections of the roll cage. New Scorpion stainless steel exhaust centre section with motorsport cat arrived. Once that's fitted and I've worked out why the new horn has stopped working, I should be able to get it MOT'd and back on the road! Exhaust... Continue Reading →

Progress

Rerouted the washer jet hose along the passenger side. Swapped around the feed in under the bonnet from the left to the right side. To take the hose out of the interior to the engine bay, you can use the route taken by the wiring that fed the door looms. Behind the rubber bung on... Continue Reading →

Progress

Vinyl'd up the car with a sunstrip first in white and then decided I didn't like it and changed it to black. Also added the graphics I had made up. They're all confined to the roof panel and I think it looks okay. It's certainly the effect I was looking for. Created covers for the... Continue Reading →

Rebuild Part 2

After a bit of faffing about, refitted the bonnet and put everything in the engine bay back together. Still a few jobs to do like the proper fitting of the cage inside as well as the codriver footrest, gel battery mount and some covers for the rear wishbone mount access panel. I am going to... Intermission

he Safety Devices roll cage is back in and loosely bolted in place after a lot of effing and blinding and trapping of fingers between pieces of steel tubing and bodywork. It's a good tight fit which of course is the way it's supposed to be. Just waiting for some bits to come in the... Continue Reading →

Rebuild Part 1

With clear coat lacquer dried, the whole interior except for the roof panel was masked off. The interior of the roof panel was then given two coats of matt black paint. I had toyed with the idea of using some black acoustic fabric for the same job as I've seen it done on other cars... Continue Reading →

Update

Managed to source a set of coolant hoses off the Pistonheads classifieds for a bargain price. So I'll get them plumbed in sometime soon, probably one the garage is cleared out and I can get the whole thing up on axle stands. I still need to drop the oil out of the engine and gearbox... Clear Coat

Laid down the first top coat layer five days ago - it seems ages to have reached this far, but it's looking good. Just needed several more layers of paint to finish it off. With the clear coat is on, there was a definite sense of Whoop! Whoop! Well I felt like doing a few... Continue Reading →

Primed

There is perhaps nothing less dull that bodywork prep work. I spent most of the weekend working on the interior. Filler and primer and sanding with wet and dry is a time consuming and dull business. Making some progress, but it just feels so slow. With that completed it finally feel like progress is being... Continue Reading →
