NS wishbone off and stripped down in a fraction of the time that yesterday's took, which just goes to show that things are a lot easier to do a second time around. Replaced both track rod ends too, which was a fairly simple job... Update: Just back from the local motor engineers, they've pressed the... Continue Reading →
Suspension Part IIb
Finally managed to get to the point where it was time to get the car up on the axle stands to tackle the next stage of the suspension overhaul. OS Wishbone came off without any problems and I spent the afternoon hacking, drilling and sawing away at the old bushes until I had one wishbone... Continue Reading →
Suspension Part IIa
Popped into the local Citroen garage in between meetings today to enquire how much they'd charge to press some new ball joints into the wishbones if I dropped them in. The guy on the service desk seemed quite shocked that they could actually be taken off the car by someone other than one of the... Continue Reading →
Rallying
Top birthday weekend away doing some rally driving. It was ace! Chris Birkbeck's rally school up near Guisborough provided the venue and the hardware...
Suspension Part I
The car crashing through bumps has been driving me mad, but a drive with a friend at the weekend was quite embarassing, so I've decided that it's time to get cracking on the suspension. Fitted the uprated 22mm ARB bushes Put on a new pair of droplinks too*. The test drive afterwards has revealed that... Continue Reading →
New Speakers
On a recent drive the speakers kept short circuiting leading to the sound from the head unit cutting out. I decided it was time to fit the new speakers. Doing so isolated the cause - the contacts on the odd Kenwood unit were shorting on the inside of the door. Replaced that and the stock... Continue Reading →
Never Simple
Didn't really have much time this weekend to do things on the car, but I reckoned that I had time to fit some more bolts and finish up a few loose ends. Quick half an hour job. Wrong. Turned into a wheels off, axle stand, bumper off, lights out 4 hour session. Still done now.... Continue Reading →
Next Jobs
Most of the parts for the suspension overhaul have arrived from Polybush, but I'm not starting on that job until everything else turns up (still waiting on some new ARB brackets and a pair of droplinks). The silicon hose kit has turned up from Spoox too, although disappointly with no clips - Forge Motorsport get... Continue Reading →
Then there was sound…
Managed to fix the speaker issue. Popped down to Maplins for some electrical connectors - bought some of the bullet-type male to female ones I've had before. Took the inside of the OS door off so I could get at everything. Turns out this door used to be black before being resprayed and fitted (previous... Continue Reading →
Fettled
Sorted out the exhaust rattle and blowing. One of the centre section joints had become quite loose. Tightened it up and it immediately solved the issue. Used some of the alloy plate and cut and formed it into a heat shield on the rear bumper where the tailpipes are. A past exhaust had melted a... Continue Reading →
Back on the Road
Car all put back together on Friday. I didn't finish until the early hours due to some complications. Two of the bumper mounting brackets had bolts seized in them, the bolts came out eventually, but destroyed the fittings in the process. I had some of the right kind of things, but they had to be... Fill. Sand. Fill. Sand.
Progressing slowly on the body work. I'm trying to get a good finish so it's taking a little while. Mostly working on the OS front wheel arch, but the NS has needed a little attention too. Touching up the front bumper too where there were some scrapes and stone chips. Elsewhere, I've fabricated a new... Continue Reading →
