Ramps

I struggled yesterday with the trolley jack. Today at lunch time I thought about how I was going to get the car onto axle stands, I ended looking at low profile trolley jacks. The prospect of having to fork out more money for something I didn't really need seemed crazy. The JCB trolley I have... Continue Reading →

Inspection Follow Up

As I had the drill out I used it to removed the aluminium tat from the two footwell mats. They were Ripspeed ones with an aluminium checkerplate to prevent heel wear as well as two small aluminium logo badges all rivited on. They came off and with a bit of effort with a scrubbing brush... Sparco Pedals Fitted

Tonight's first task was to fit the pedals. The setup in the car was previously this: I'd looked at this yesterday, measured up to get the 50mm pedal spacing and marked out potential holes for drilling with red enamel. It was clear that the shape of the accelerator pedal wasn't going to work, so it... Continue Reading →

First Inspection

First real look at and fiddle with a few things. First job I thought to look at was the front towing eye and the rear which are both showing signs of rust. The rear isn't so noticeable, but the front is quite apparent and needs some work to tidy it up. The rust has spread... Continue Reading →

Series 2

A few years ago I bought a small car and loved owning it. A Peugeot 106 Rallye S1. 1300cc, 8v engine putting out 100 bhp - probably a little more with a full peugeot sport exhaust system and an induction kit. Now this engine output might not seem much these days because many modern cars... Continue Reading →

Specification

The Rallye Peugeot 106 Rallye Series 2 in Bianca white This summarises the spec of the car at the end of the build. It was broken for parts and sold after that. Chassis: Seam Welded Boot to Rear Arches Cage and Harness Mounting Points Reinforced Alloy, titanium and stainless steel bolts to replace OEM steel... Continue Reading →

Inherited Specification

The following is the spec on the car at the time I bought it. The previous owner only took on the car in March 2008 and it was his second S2, having previously had another Bianca White one. At that point it was a standard 8v Rallye from a guy who had it 5 years.... Continue Reading →

Mountain Bikes and Cars

Cars. Considered noisy, pollution making, environmentally unfriendly, dangerous to small furry animals and increasingly expensive. Yet they are loved by many. Bikes and cars generally don't mix well. Riders think car drivers on the road are out to get them and off road that they shouldn't be turning tracks into quagmires. Motorists think that cyclists... Continue Reading →

Goodbye Rallye

So after many years of happy ownership, a few speeding tickets, quite a bit of fettling (like that time the ignition key was stuck in the rear book lock at a 24hr mountain bike race) and some great driving, I've decided it's time to sell the Rallye. New job, more disposable income, I fancy an... Continue Reading →

At the Races

Turns out that the Rallye is a great vehicle for getting to the Mountain Bike races. Over the years it's done it's duties getting various buddies to the race venues around the country. This weekend just gone it was the SAAB Salomon Mountain Mayhem at Eastnor Castle in the Malverns.

That’s rather loud

The M62 out of Manchester claimed the stock exhaust today. The back box dropped off at 70mph on the inside lane. The car without it is rather loud. Time for a stainless steel Peugeot Sport exhaust.

It’s back

So six months after our encounter with a ditch a train ride home and a lift to the garage the following day reunited me with the Rallye. It'd taken a while to save up £1,500 to refurbish it. New body panels, paintwork, time on a chassis jig. The block was okay, but as new second... Continue Reading →
