More Rust

After chopping out what appeared to be the bad bit of the bumper mounting bracket and then a bit more... and more... and more, I just decided the whole thing was shot and just drilled it off. I'll get a new one from Mark Yates at 106parts because it'll be too time consuming to fabricate... Continue Reading →

8v Update

Drivers side front wheel arch repairs all done and under new stone chip protection and paint. I also managed to get the majority of the crap off the arch and sill with just a few little bits to do - under the gunk it has the slight patina of stone chips and gravel rash that... Continue Reading →

One Step Closer

Chopped out the rot, put a 5mm alloy plate in behind the sound deadening to stop setting fire to anything and then tack welded in a repair panel. Fully welded it in, cleaned up the welds, primed and seam sealed just to be sure. One of the other things I've been cleaning up as I... Continue Reading →

8v Saga Continues

So I am just finishing the repair around the access whole as reported previously and I spotted where the stud is mounted at the back of the arch into the cabin... Oh balls, more work.

Goodbye (Again)

When I bought the Audi S3 back in 2005, I wasn't offered a very good price for the Rallye as a trade in so I gifted it to my sister. She owned it from May 2005 to about March 2008 when it was back in Norfolk in the Norwich area. It was a bit tired... Continue Reading →

8v Update

When I was bleeding the offside brake calliper I noticed a patch in the front wheel arch that didn't look too wonderful so I scraped off the underseal to find it looking a little rotten underneath. So this weekend finally managed to find time to break out the tools and tidy it up! Chopped it... Continue Reading →

Update

Due to my rock star lifestyle I've done naff all for ages. I did manage to get to Halfords before closing on Sunday and now have enough brake fluid to bleed the lines. That's the aim for this week. The only other progress in recent time had been putting a rivnut in to replace a... Continue Reading →

New Lines

This is why I'm replacing the brakelines to the rear... Looking pretty ropey in the recess where the fuel filter lives. New lines made up out of cunifer: All fitted tonight, just need to bleed them and get the car back on the deck...

Update

In the middle of finishing off the repairs and waiting for brake pipe at the moment. Found the Home Made Tools website today - it's worth a look if you're into that sort of thing. Over the weekend had the car outside, washed it and then spent a hour or so jacking up each side... Continue Reading →

Repair Patch Fabrication

My wife's a star and arranged for the in-laws to come around this afternoon to buy me some garage time. I didn't waste a second. Used the cardbaord template made yesterday to outline the repair piece and then cut it from Zintec. Started marking up for spot weld drillings and sections to form. Drilled first... 8v Progress

So this is where I am up to with the repairs. To keep the panels in the right place when welding on the next section, it was time to crack out the cleco pins. They're a great bit of kit. Next job is the final repair panel. This is a tricky one but I'm going... Continue Reading →
