Tidying

Coilovers are nearly finished, but as I have some work to do I chucked the standard shocks off the GTI on. So this is what I am working with - a very dirty 106 Rallye! I've done some repainting of the door shuts and around the rear quarter windows transforming them from this: To this:... Continue Reading →

Coilovers

So the car's gone nowhere since arriving home as it had no springs on the front struts and the steering rack/column needed sorting. I bought a set of Bilstein B8s about the same time as the GTI which were sat in a box, so I thought that I'd convert the struts to coilovers. Dunc Conway... Continue Reading →

New Project

This is the new project car, it is well known in the 106 Rallye Register forum community having been around since at least 2009 as far as I can tell. I bought as a rolling shell from Andrew Mathias. So the history of my second S1, L958KBW, is as below as far as I can... Continue Reading →

Bellhousing Reset

I have a load of photos from the earlier build work. There are six from when it was just finished at Hockly's but the one I posted previously is the only one that shows the rear mount. Hockly's came back to me this morning with the conclusion that Sadev did the housing, but talking to... Continue Reading →

Sadev Part 2

With help from Stuart Trundle and a 400mile detour north of the border on the way home in the snow I have a sequential gearbox again, this time with all the internals and it came with a box of spares. There is a slight issue of now having two bellhousing adapters neither of which fit... Continue Reading →

Sadev Shifter

Another piece of the puzzle restored... Not the original one, but this has only been used three times as the owner has moved to paddle shift. Not got the rest of the box yet, that's about 10 times more expensive lol.

Out of Hiding

Having collected it from storage today it is now home. Photos are me collecting it from it's winter lodgings... As I was loading it up a chap called Ron Sutton came over who lived in one of the neighbouring houses. We had a chat for about 20 minutes. He worked with Subaru during the McRae... Old Parts Reacquainted

Remember these? Maniflow ceramic coated manifold which has been sprayed black. Balanced flywheel and AP clutch Now back in my garage so that they can eventually be bolted to the engine, which now looks like this (well kind of as the clutch is now off and a few more bits): Should have the Maxi transported... Dilemma

Bit of progress in that I did a deal with Bic last month and once Sandy tracks them down should have the exhaust manifold and flywheel on the way up North. I've partially stripped down the EW and put a load of surplus bits for sale on eBay. Just need to split it from the... Continue Reading →

The Maxi

It's been a mad month, my Father sold his place in Norfolk and that meant the Maxi was homeless. A local family friend agreed to provide sheltered accommodation up here so the car has now come back up the Northwest. It feels like progress even if I've done nothing...

New Heart

Might need to change a few things back to how they were meant to be... I bought basically most mechanical and electrical parts off the front of the GTI 180 donor car. Engine with both manifolds, box, all ancillaries, loom, Ecu, etc. Not had a chance to really look at it all yet. In terms... Continue Reading →

K16 PUG Update

Christ it's a long time since I updated on this car. Well it's still in hibernation, I've seen it about four times in 18 months. Our house sale is finally going through after 24 months on the market and I am looking for opportunities to work back in the North West. Beginning of last month... Continue Reading →
