Have spent a bit of free time over the last few weeks painting and prepping the car for reassembly. As part of finishing up this thread from my perspective, here are some pics of the Corsa C EPAS conversion for future reference. Bit of reinforcement
Long Pause
Been up to my eyeballs in work for the last month or so and getting very little time to work on the car. In fact haven't been down to the garage for more than a few hours in all that time. Managed a few hours this afternoon which was a welcome relief. In the mean... Continue Reading →
Dash for Progress
About to become exceptinoally busy with work which will put a dampner on much progress in the coming month or so and as a result I am trying to make a bit of a push on the car. I suspect the biggest development is to finally decide the direction for the build, which is now... Continue Reading →
Steering Column Update
Here's the modified steering column and Lifeline weld-on boss all machined and ready to be welded up: The top hat acts as the bearing carrier for a roller bearing that supports the column inside an outer tube. It needs to be removable to replace the bearing and will be held in place with a roll... Continue Reading →
Machine Shop Part I
Dropped the revised drawings and the necessary parts in at One Off Engineering in Hyde during the week for them to machine the steering coumn and boss ready for welding. Once the columns is turned down and the boss bored out they're going to produce a special top hat spacer to my specification and then... Continue Reading →
Bearing Arrival
The end of the Corsa steering column needs to be supported and due to the modifications I've had to source a needle bearing to fit the job. It's taken ages because the first supplier turned out not to have any stock despite saying that they did and the second managed to fudge the order and... Continue Reading →
Column Done
Finally finished welding on the steering column to make sure it has plenty of support. Started the clean up and prep for paint tonight...
Steering Update
Had to chop a bit of length of both the pinion and the steering column, but the EPAS is now fitted and has eliminated the unwanted movement in the column... It works... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAKri8FJRy0 Into the home straight on this now.
Further EPAS Work
Managed a couple of hours this week due to a couple of strokes of luck giving me some time back, so cracked on with work to get the EPAS fitted. The Borgeson double UJ has two what are known as DD fittings of different sizes ( 3/4" DD / 1" DD ). I ordered mine... Continue Reading →
EPAS Update…
Things have run into a snag on the EPAS. The background here is that I am putting a Vauxhall Corsa electric power steering (EPAS) unit into my Peugeot 106. The connection between the end of the EPAS and the pinion on the rack is tight for space (about 5"). I have tested things out by... Continue Reading →
EPAS Update
I haven't been sitting idle recently, I've just not had a lot of time for getting on with the chassis. New wire for the welder turned up end of last week after a bit of a wait (I am fussy about what I use): With it I was able to finish off the reinforcement of... Continue Reading →
EPAS Progress
Pretty much there in the fitting of the Corsa C EPAS. It has taken a lot of trial and error to get to this point. I have taken lots of pics for a fitting guide that will be made available via the 106 Rallye Register members' section. It is now a case of reinforcing the... Continue Reading →
