8v Repairs Continued

No updates for a few days. but that doesn't mean no progress. Decided yesterday that a bit more needed chopping out: Cleaned it up with a wire wheel and etch primed it. Started making a chassis rail repair section. Utter PITA having to go under the car everytime and adjustment was made to make sure... Continue Reading →

8v Repairs

With the 16v shell laid up, it's time to tackle the work on the 8v road car - so first job! Tackle those two chassis rail gussets that are goosed. Off side gets the treatment first. So here the progress so far. Car's now up on axle stands... Initial Inspection: Pick off the loose underseal:... Continue Reading →

Update

Update time! Well with holidays and a bit off a lengthy spell battling the N/S inner wing, there's finally some progress to report. First of all though I managed to pick up a S2 Rallye Gearbox Pinion and Crownwheel that is already prepped and ready for fitting to a Quaife ATB limited slip differential. This... Continue Reading →

Welding Continues

Finally getting towards the end of the near side repairs. The final repair panel is now being welded onto the wheel arch side of the inner wing.

Progress

A few months ago I picked up some 3mm steel brackets that were surplus from a refurbishment of our office space. I think that they're used to mount door closure mechanisms or something similar. Another Weekend Gone

Further Repairs

So after some careful planning, I chopped the engine bay side of the N/S chassis rail, carefully doing so to allow repairs without needing to setup a jig. There was plenty of structural rigidity in the sections of rail left and the rotten sections simply lifted out once they were cut out - once the... Continue Reading →

Progress

Earlier in the week I spent an hour in the garage and managed to cardboard template for the chassis rail side cut out, but spent most of my time sitting looking at it and trying to work out the plan of attack. The gearbox mount needs to come off to be able to repair the... Continue Reading →

Update

This weekend I thought that I had finished the N/S inner arch repairs but as I welded on the last repair patch it has become obvious that part of the chassis rail was pretty rotten. What was supposed to be 1.6mm thick steel melted away under the tip like it was paper. It's a gutting... Continue Reading →
