Wanted to press on with things, so back at it again today. After load of measurements, I fabricated up these supports for the fuel cell container. Capped off the ends to give a nicer finish - you'll never see it, but it's all about satisfaction about knowing it's been nicely done. Welded in the supports.... Continue Reading →
Column Done
Finally finished welding on the steering column to make sure it has plenty of support. Started the clean up and prep for paint tonight...
Steering Update
Had to chop a bit of length of both the pinion and the steering column, but the EPAS is now fitted and has eliminated the unwanted movement in the column... It works... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAKri8FJRy0 Into the home straight on this now.
Moving Forwards
Two more bottles of argon mix and we're ready to crack on again. Over the last week I've started working out the runs for the braided lines through the car. So Master cylinder and servo are temporarily back on, bulkhead has been drilled and the rear line run along the tunnel. I've started to fab... Continue Reading →
Stop and Start Again
Handbrake Reinforcement: Trying to repair the mess on the parts of the tunnel I mentioned last time just left me chasing holes in the affected sections. So despite getting it looking pretty good, it was full of thin metal sections and pin holes. The underside told the true story - things were not good. Only... Continue Reading →
Hmmm
The problem with working on the exhaust tunnel is that you need to be able to get to both sides of it and the underside is a pain to work on. It would make sense to have a facility to be able to turn the car on its side but that's not an option. So... Continue Reading →
Bay in Primer
After a lot of hours I have the majority of the engine bay in POR15 primer. I've left the lowest sections of the bay in a rough state because there still some work to do to bring the shell back to bare metal and treat it properly with POR15. The next job will be to... Continue Reading →
Progress in the Bay
After a bit of a pause in which not much happened on either car, some nice bits have arrived for the 16v which means that I can press on and get some bits finished off. I have to think ahead on a lot of different levels about how things will fit together and work once... Continue Reading →
Few Things
The other little thing I have been working on is the bypass for the heater matrix coolant pipes. Prior to deciding to take out the heater setup I had bought a set of the Baker BM silicone hoses but they were now surplus to requirements with the new heater less setup. So they've been chopped... EPAS Update
I haven't been sitting idle recently, I've just not had a lot of time for getting on with the chassis. New wire for the welder turned up end of last week after a bit of a wait (I am fussy about what I use): With it I was able to finish off the reinforcement of... Continue Reading →
8v Update
Well I haven't posted much on the 8v recently, but it's getting daily use during the week as the Nursery wagon. There are a few things that now need a little attention. I stuck a new rear wiper blade on a few weeks ago as the one that was on the car may well have... Continue Reading →
EPAS Progress
Pretty much there in the fitting of the Corsa C EPAS. It has taken a lot of trial and error to get to this point. I have taken lots of pics for a fitting guide that will be made available via the 106 Rallye Register members' section. It is now a case of reinforcing the... Continue Reading →
