Moored Up

S2 Rallye

Gratuitous photo of the Rallye (briefly) back on the road.

The Rallye is pretty much ready to go off to Ghost Developments this weekend. I topped up the oil and took it out for a spin tonight and the difference in the car is phenomenal – in the current setup it’s about 100kgs lighter than before. Anything other than gentle application of the throttle makes traction a problem. It was certainly like that before – now it feels even more agressive.

Chopped off the mounting bracket for the engine bay auxilary fuse box and the inertia switch. It’ll make life a little easier for Paul when he’s doing the work to reinforce the strut tops –  one less job. It’s spot welded onto the NS Strut tower so came off quite easily – I fabricated up an alloy mount as a temporary fix, cutting out the complex shape of the fuse box mount from the original steel bracket and bolting it to the alloy.

Unfortunately something’s wrong with the indicator electrics. Nothing happens when you move the stalk – no lights come on either on the dash or on the exterior of the car. I wondered if this was because the hazard switch wasn’t fitted. Put a spare one in the car and tried again. With the hazard switched on there’s a click from a relay in the fuse box area and the light on the hazard switch becomes illuminated, but still no indicators. Hmmm. Not sure what the cause of this is – it could be a lot of things, so it needs some investigation.

Update: Indicators don’t work if you plug the hazard warning switch into the socket for the heated rear screen.
