Boot Floor Banished

So the original boot floor in the Rallye is out. It looked like it had a load of bricks chucked in it at some point in the past and then was driven over a section of Belgian Roubaix at pace. It was a mess of dented and distorted metal to look at every time you opened the boot.

On the underside it was more than a cosmetic problem, it was a mess of rotten steel caked in crap.

As you’d expect having removed the boot floor created a lot of space to work in. To make that a bit safer after having used a sabre saw to chop it out there was a bit of tidying up to do.

The first bit to come out was the section of boot floor left spot welded to rear valance. That was so rotten some of it just pulled off by hand. Fortunately the valance is pretty solid so should clean up okay.

The near side inner arch to boot floor had previously been fixed by over plating it with a bit of angle iron. It was badly welded and will all need chopping out to just above that where a bit of paint removal shows that the arch is still solid.

Offside inner arch had the angle iron treatment, but had a sizeable lap panel welded on both the inside and another on the outside to sandwich a very rotten original piece, which had continued to rot and led to rust jacking, expanding the thickness of the original 1mm steel to move than 3mm. So all that is going to need to come out too.

Still loving the paint!
